Aztc Soup
Chicken broth with tomatoe and chile ancho, crispy corn tortilla, shredded chicken, fresh cheese and sour cream and a hint of avocado. A classic in winter time!
Dish story
Sopa Azteca, also known as Tortilla Soup, is one of Mexico's most iconic dishes. Although its exact origins remain uncertain, it is traditionally associated with central Mexico, particularly Mexico City. The soup is built around a rich tomato and dried chilli broth, finished with crispy fried tortilla strips that create its signature contrast of textures. Over time, ingredients such as shredded chicken, fresh cheese, avocado and Mexican cream have become classic additions.
Cutzamala version
At Cutzamala, our Sopa Azteca begins with a slowly simmered chicken stock enriched with fresh tomatoes and ancho chilli to create a rich, balanced broth. Just before serving, we add crispy fried corn tortillas, shredded chicken breast, fresh cheese, avocado and Mexican cream, creating a comforting dish with layers of flavour and texture. A handcrafted interpretation of one of Mexico's most beloved soups.
Main ingredients
Ancho chilli, made from dried poblano peppers, is the defining ingredient of Sopa Azteca. Its mild heat, fruity sweetness and delicate smoky notes give the broth its distinctive depth while allowing the freshness of the remaining ingredients to shine.
